The Wood Work BeginsI cut out most of the large wood work part the first night and started the build process by dry fitting them together. Before I could glue any of the part I had to go to all of the round inside corners and square them off with a small file. This process took a good mount of time so I did it over a few days. By doing this the parts fit very snug and seat fully in place. The part shown below is for the throttle servo. You can see where some of the corners are square and some are not. |

Getting the Angles RightTo star the gluing process I tacked the parts with some thick CA. I used a right angle clamp to hold the parts until the CA set. The right angle clamps can be purchased from MicroMark. After the CA had set and the clamp was removed the joints were brushed with epoxy that had been thinned out. Thinning the epoxy allowed it to seep into the joint forming a strong bond. |

Extra StrengthI really felt the long side pieces of the mechanic support was too flimsy so, I added Carbon Fiber tape to stiffen the wood work. The wood is still somewhat flexable. Sealing off the wood workAll the wood work gots an epoxy coating. I did this process in stages. The first was to brush on thinned out epoxy over the whole of the wood work and allthis to dry. This left a rough texture that I sanded. A second coat of thinned epoxy was then applied. The second coat came out smooth but there were thin spots so one final coat of epoxy was added leaving a very smooth and finished texture to the wood work. |
